Call Your Parents: fostering connections between first-generation students & their parents

My project aims to foster connections between first-generation students & their parents, while encouraging everyone to learn more about our parents while we still can.

I personally had a lack of communication/knowledge about my parents' life and immigration experiences. so with my project I aim to encourage everyone to intentionally connect with their parents, and recognize that time is passing quickly for both generations.

This project allowed me to showcase my skills in photography, videography, and post-production editing. I aimed to capture the essence and personality of the subjects through the use of studio lighting techniques

.To enhance and edit the portraits, I utilized Adobe Lightroom as my primary photo editing software.

Triunfo: Queer Latinas in SoCal

Triunfo (triumph) is a written and visual project by a team of five women. Our goal is to uplift the stories and successes of Latinas in Southern California. We aim to connect our creativity with social inclusion to give their voices the platform they deserve.

In my chapter, I had the privilege of conducting interviews with several queer Latinas, delving into their experiences of coming out and the various challenges posed by their religious and cultural backgrounds. These interviews culminated in a comprehensive long-form article. Additionally, I curated a visual chapter featuring photographs that vividly capture the beautiful and diverse LGBTQIA+ community.

Furthermore, I took part in designing and developing the website aimed at showcasing our team's articles, creating a platform to amplify the voices and stories of Latinas in Southern California– scholars in education, a first-generation mother & second-generation daughter, journalists, small business owners, and those who identify as LGBTQIA+
